Mini-Circuits released its first GaN-on-SiC HEMT MMIC power amplifiers in the October 2026 product wave (e.g. GNA-63-5W+ ~10 MHz–6 GHz, GNA-252-5W+ ~10 MHz–2.5 GHz class parts covered in Microwave Journal New Products / Frequency Matters: https://www.microwavejournal.com/articles/46192-new-products , https://www.microwavejournal.com/articles/46290-frequency-matters-passive-components-and-integrated-assemblies-eumw-2026-wrap-up). Below is a bring-up checklist — not a datasheet reprint.
1. Bias and sequencing before you chase Psat
GaN MMICs are unforgiving of gate/drain order mistakes. Freeze the vendor sequence, gate clamp, and negative-rail behaviour on the same sheet as the RF match. A "works once on a lab supply" setup that omits sequencing will fail the next spin.
2. Load / source pull vs a 50 Ω board
Datasheet Psat and PAE assume a fixture. On FR4/Rogers with a real connector and bias tee, re-check:
- Large-signal S22 / stability into the intended load (including cable VSWR)
- Harmonic terminations if you care about efficiency or ACLR, not only CW P-1dB
- Thermal path: case-to-board and heatsink — GaN will derate faster than the PDF table if the pad is starved
3. Habit for first article inspection
Log: bias voltages/currents vs Pin, Pout vs Pin, drain efficiency, and case temperature at the same Pin steps. Compare one mid-band point to the datasheet fixture before you trust a full sweep.
Discussion: on your last wideband GaN MMIC bring-up, which moved first away from the datasheet — match at band edge, thermal derating, or stability into a reactive load — and did you fix it in matching, bias, or heat?
